VEM (Vattenfall Energy Model)
This model will consist of a landscape with the four major renewable energy sources: hydropower, solar power, wind power and biomass. Turning a switch on a control panel will control these either automatically or manually.
Hydro
A river is going to flow through the model with a hydro power plant in it. The power plant will consist of a model made in fiberglass, with a servo-controlled hatch and an emergency release hatch that will be automatically controlled by the level of the dam.
Wind
A random generator will control wind speed and the changes are illustrated by increasing the speed of the wind turbines.
Biomass/coal power plant
This power plant will have a train going stopping beside it to drop off biomass/coal for the plant and then returning to the mountain to pick up more fuel. The plant will then start producing power for a minute. The amount of power generated by this power plant is regulated by the frequency of the train (randomly generated), from stopping every minute at the plant for continuous power generation to coming to the plant every ten minutes (there will also be a stop option).
Solar
The amount of power generated by the solar plant is regulated manually by using a desktop lamp to illustrate more/less sun and changes in power generation will only be illustrated in the HMI
When VEM is set to manual hydro, wind and power plant is going to be controlled by either the HMI or the control panel
History of the power production for each energy source is to be saved and will be viewable in the HMI.
